Abstract work for me is not so much that of form itself but the suggestion of the form, the forms specter, its mystery, it’s magic. . I agree with Frank Stella, and believe that our associations frame our understandings: “What you see is what you see” may be a theoretical rhetoric, but when what you see is what you associate with what you are seeing-is a process of recognition, an abstract form takes on meaning outside the control of its maker. I thus agree with Marcel Duchamp when he stated that, “The viewer completes the work of art.”
