Considered to be a capable colorist and brave creator, Kathleen LeRoy has spent the last 10 years honing a creative process of discovering the rich color and form of her natural surroundings and complicated figures who sit around the banquet table of her life. Native to a deep inner world, she expresses complex spiritual truths through her paintings that imbue material reality with a sense of place. She was born and raised in the deep south and currently resides at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in Boulder, Colorado. Both environments influence, inform, and inspire her abstract landscapes and contemporary figurative paintings. Kathleen is hoping to inspire and stir feelings, to fill empty spaces with vibrant color, and to encourage contemplation with her often-otherworldly paintings. She believes that art is integration of form and feeling, and that relying too much on one or the other can come across confusing and leave the viewer unsatisfied. When a balance and harmony of the two emerges, the viewer experiences a vibration that is palpable and moving. Making art brings her joy and a painting’s process connects her more deeply to herself. She is motivated by the miracle of each piece’s evolution, by the surprising result, and by you, the viewer, having a unique experience with it. Wrought with a palette knife, brushwork, large scrapers, water, and rags, her large canvas paintings have thick layers of acrylic paint creating noticeable texture. Kathleen is a self-taught artist whose creativity emerged after a rich life of being an entrepreneur, a psychotherapist, a mother, and a committed student of life. She has received training from many accomplished painters and creators in Boulder, Colorado and from the Arts Student League in Denver and has participated in over 20 exhibitions throughout Colorado. LeRoy’s paintings have been included in the R Gallery Boulder, The Collective of Boulder and Osmosis Gallery of Niwot. She is a member of Open Studios and NoBo Art District.
