My paintings were selected by the state department to decorate the Ambassador’s residence at the American Embassy in India. I had been a traditional landscape artist for many years but over the last 8 years have studied creating experimental, abstracted work.

I received a Disney Scholarship to attend Art Center in Los Angeles where I graduated and became an architectural illustrator. As my career changed from illustrator to full time artist, I was able to sell my paintings through different art galleries and juried and competitive art shows. Over the past thirty years, I have focused on painting the landscapes and wildlife of our “American West of Today”. Receiving the Gold Medal for my watercolor at the Autry Museum was a special honor. I have enjoyed winning over 50 major awards and have sold my paintings in art galleries and at art shows throughout the U.S.
Marnie Becker
Signature memberships: AWS, WFWS, WW, NWWS, SWS, FWS
After a career in education and social work, Marnie Becker began to study drawing and painting at the Art Institute of Chicago, but it was in a portrait workshop taught by Ted Nuttall in 2011 that she realized she had found her passion. After gaining success with her impressionist portraits, she has begun to move in a more abstract direction with both portraits and urban scenes. While Marnie paints from photographs, her biggest challenge is in reinterpreting a piece in a more abstract manner in order to allow the viewer to create their own story while enjoying the painting.
Matthew Bird

Matthew graduated with honors from the Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn, New York, in 2000. Marilynne Bradley
Signature memberships: RMNWS, WSA, KWS, KYWCS, SW, LWS, TWS, MWS, SLWS, OWS, GWS, MOWS
The calculated structure of my geometric transformations is a breakaway from Photorealism and the recent trend of Plein Aire Painting. My compositions evolve by reconstructing overlapping planes created by straight lines and tangents. Changing the formal structure of organic shapes into a controlled approach of rigid linear constructions alters the mood of a scene, not to mention the contrast it provides to shadows and movement. The composition is compressed within lines of force leading the eye to one point of interest.
Ken Call
Signature memberships: AWS, NWS, TWSA, MA, MTWS, WW, WHS, MOWS
Born and raised in Rochelle, Illinois, Ken went on to graduate from the American Academy of Art in 1980 with an Associates Degree in Illustration and Watercolor. After beginning his career as a studio artist, he soon branched out on his own, beginning a very successful freelance career which led to over 500 illustrations for books, magazines, art publishers, advertising agencies and corporations. In the last few years Ken has made the transition to fine art and portraiture. Many of his originals are hanging in galleries and homes across the country.
Gloria Chadwick
Signature memberships: MOWS
My work is seen locally at various shows and the Del Mar Fair . I enjoy using new techniques and painting on different surfaces. Each painting has it's challenges and the creative finish is always questioned with "is it done yet?" Then off to another fun challenge. My motto is "Fine art, fun art".
My work has been included in various books, movies, Virginia Zoo, San Diego Zoo/Starbucks tumbler/debit card , Birds In Art, national art shows and 2 museums. I love art shows and talking with the public about nature. I was also featured in the 2022 October Fine Art Connoisseur magazine of wildlife master artists.

She focuses on the depth of expression seen in their faces. Janice has exhibited and received awards in numerous renowned organizations.

Although primarily self-taught, Elaine has studied with numerous master artists in the U.S. Her work is in several private collections throughout the U.S. and in the Qingdao Museum in China.
Roberta Dyer
Signature memberships: NWS, SDWS, ISEA, WFWS
I attended Vanderbilt University where I received a BA in art history and I have found that having a knowledge of painting history has served me well in developing my personal painting style; intuitive and expressive. I find myself returning to the figure as my base, but my approach is the same whether I am painting humans, animals, pots or abstracts. I love the expressive nature of mark making. A simply drawn figure is one of my favorite beginnings to a painting. I try to use edgy compositions to support my story and after placing the figure I begin the journey toward completion, using acrylics, mark-making and occasionally collage.

Antoaneta Georgieva
Signature memberships: WW, WFWS, NWWS, LWS, PWCS, GWS, MOWS, WAS-H
I was always drawn to creating images, colors and shapes even before coming to know what "art" was. This creative process became the most exciting part of my life. Painting is a creative sanctuary where I truly come alive with purpose and pleasure. The studio is where I am very content with my life and I never feel like I have wasted a single moment. I am forever a student trying to constantly improve and there never seems to be enough time. My aim in whatever I paint is to give myself pleasure in expressing myself well. What matters to me is how I put myself on the paper or canvas. That’s all!

Diane E. Halley
Signature memberships: NWS
My main objective in creating art is to show God’s love for all His creations. I work primarily in portraits and the human figure because each person is unique and lovely in his or her own way, no matter the race, sex or age. The wrinkled faces of the elderly are equally as interesting and beautiful as the smooth faces of youth. Life has a way of etching its story on one’s face, and I hope to convey some of this in the faces I paint.

In every painting, if you look closely, she places a tiny hawk (representing connection to the divine) and a heart (representing love). Wanda’s paintings have won numerous awards and have been shown and sold in galleries throughout San Diego. Her art is included in private collections across the United States and in several foreign countries.
Iretta Hunter
Signature memberships: AWS, NWS, MCWA, MOWS
Mother Nature is the inspiration for much of my work. I like to work with patterns and designs created in plants, rocks, and vegetables. The roses to the left were painted one vertical stripe at a time, shifting each section up or down (the paper has not been cut). The format adds wonderful edges and texture to finished paintings, inviting the viewer to take a closer look. I have been painting with watercolor for the past 20 years. And I have had the good fortune to attend workshops and classes with many talented artists. My paintings are in personal collections in North and South America.
Jeff Ishikawa
Signature memberships: CWA, WW, PWS
As a realistic painter who happens to work in watercolors, I am challenged and often surprised by the capricious nature of the medium. My aim is to capture the light and mood of a subject, and translate what I see and feel into paint; bringing the viewer into familiar and unfamiliar places. The bulk of my works are landscapes, most notably of the San Francisco Bay Area, but I also do some figurative works, slice-of-life narratives and still lifes. My influences include 19th and 20th century American realists and artists from the French Impressionists. I majored in Graphic Design with a concentration in Illustration and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University.

I like to use bright colors and bold contrasts in my work, emphasizing and adding to those I see in the world.
Ruth Miller
Signature memberships: CWA, W, NWWS
I think my paintings tell a story. I want the viewer to feel the dynamics of the scene. The noise, movement and animation are all part of the painting. I want the viewer to sit down with friends at the café, or pick up a paddle to row, or hear the noise of the busy train station. I use light and color to tell my story. I love the contrast created when I place the white of the paper right beside the darkest paint. I travel with a camera. I take photos of my subject from every direction, trying to collect the important information. I’m never sure from which vantage point will make the best painting!

The more I work with watercolor, the more intrigued I become with its many moods. After studying art in several forms for twenty-five years, I can honestly say that I am still a student of art. But now I am teaching watercolor at the Gallery, Fallbrook Art Association.

I am always ready to activate my camera when I am there, to catch inspiring moments.

Sharon Rawlins
Signature memberships: NWS, FSWS
I am a painter and sometimes a printmaker. By happenstance, my career path took me into typesetting and from there into design and creative communication — the graphic arts. In California I was exposed to the California "School" of watercolorists, past and present as well as to the Bay Area Figurative painters. And here too I began painting Plein Air in the legendary light of Southern California. After managing an in-house creative department for many years I returned to and earned a degree in Studio Art from the University of Mary Washington. My painting medium of choice is watercolor.
Rikki Reinholz
Signature memberships: WW, SDWS
I enjoy exaggerating the play of light on objects and creating interesting shadow shapes using a combination of "mingling" luminous colors and transparent glazes. My passion for painting is expressed in the way I take advantage of light patterns, shadows and contrasting values to create a mood. The excitement of capturing a visual experience and transferring it to a sheet of white paper is often intimidating, but the freedom to re-arrange these shapes, images and colors in a composition is exhilarating. My goal is to share my feelings of excitement, freedom of expression and the passion to paint with my students and those who view my paintings.

His distorted translation is applied to a typical architectural structure and brings a unique twist that abstracts it into it’s own perspective. Whatever he chooses as subject matter will be brought to a unique life. Mark paints in watercolor or oil. He is influenced by Thiebaud, Hockney, Escher and Wood. When you’re a kid, art is fun. Eileen Sudzina
Signature memberships: AWS, NWS, IWS, WHS, PAWCS
I have a degree in Commercial Art and Design. "Tree lined street" is a typical residential street in Western Pennsylvania in late fall. If you notice it from afar and move in to see the details and are surprised to find it is not detailed but a loose energetic piece. Your eye reads cars and trees and houses and hopefully movement from wind. Watercolor on yupo. Painted in a limited palette giving you just enough to determine what it is although it may appear differently to you when you look again and again. I like to let the viewer to finish the details.

"Watercolor painting is an exploration of transparent spirit possibilities. Some colors hide as to play a supporting role to others that glow as leaders. If we are lucky these visual combinations of spirits, a little bit spontaneous and a little bit planned will hopefully the make everydayness of life a joyful experience."

A Graduate from Cal State Hayward, B.A. Fine Arts in 1972, Sal is a contemporary plein-air artist and abstract expressionist whose passion for life and art are vividly seen in colorful paintings. Recently, he started painting t-shirts using water soluble dyes. The colors were very vibrant and transparent, which gave him the idea of using them in an abstract format on watercolor paper. Initially, he poured dye on hot-press paper, and using a card like a squeegee, he was able to move the dye around. Later, he began using an airbrush technique on rough watercolor paper, using rags on top of the paper to design his composition.
David Van Galen

David’s architectural training has provided a grounding in many of the aspects that now influence his painting – a simplicity of means and an inherent understanding of perspective, composition, and the play of light.
"I’ve always sketched and painted to see the world around me more clearly. Focusing on a subject while painting brings details to life that are normally lost in the visual cacophony bombarding us on a daily basis. Watercolor allows me to explore these details while at the same time requiring an immediacy that results in a more expressive interpretation of their form and quality."

Robert Willis
Signature memberships: WW
Willis is an Artist-in-Residence at Dorland Mountain Arts. "As I was leaving high school, a sympathetic teacher urged me to apply for entry in Pratt Institute School of Art. I was accepted and spent a wondrous year and a half there, then I left school to join the army. As an infantry soldier fighting in Italy, I carried a small sketchbook in my pack. During lulls between battles, I’d put down impressions of what I saw. Some of my paintings have received awards. Quite a few hang in private collections in the U.S.A. and in Europe. In the classes I conduct I attempt to transmit to others the joy of flowing water and pigment applied to paper with a brush."
